Hi! I'm Courtney Hinshaw. People call me Courtney, Mona, Court, and my students call me Miss Hinshaw.
I'm a picture book loving teacher from Orange County, California. I am pretty sure I have way too many favorite picture books, chocolate coconut ice cream with chocolate chips is my go to dessert, social emotional learning is a must in my classroom, and early mornings are my favorite.
I wasn't always devouring books and telling every teacher I see about the power of picture books. At the age of nine, I was diagnosed with dyslexia and an auditory processing disorder. Because of my hard work ethic, many hours of tutoring, encouraging parents, and loving teachers I was able to rise above. I share my story here.
Ramona Recommends? Why not Courtney Recommends? My favorite author growing up was Beverly Cleary who pinned two famous little girls named Ramona and Beezus Quimby. Long story short I was definitely the Ramona in the family who got into everything and always wanted to play with my older sisters Tiffany and Shannon. Tiffany did not escape the nicknames and became Beezus. Flipping many pages forward while thinking of a blog name I created a list with my favorite children's literature characters and I knew in my heart Beverly Cleary's Ramona was the perfect choice. Ramona Recommends opened a new chapter to spread the magic.
Come say hi on the gram! You can find me at @ramonarecommends
Until then, Open The Magic!
